Vannes and its harbour
Vannes is a town built like an amphitheatre in the Gulf of Morbihan boasting an historic centre behind the ramparts based around Saint-Pierre Cathedral. This pedestrian zone offers an attractive town with timber-framed houses.
Vannes is the ideal departure point for trips around the Gulf and for visiting the architectural heritage.
- Market days in Vannes town centre (Les Halles) : every Wednesday and Saturday.
Vannes harbour is situated on the northern side of the Morbihan Gulf, along a 1 200 m long canal which leads boats in from the outer harbour at Pont-Vert to the wet dock at the foot of Porte Saint Vincent, the gate leading to the old part of Vannes. The boat companies offering trips around the Gulf and to the islands in the Atlantic ocean (Belle-Ile, Houat and Hoëdic) are located at Pont-Vert outer harbour.
